Small, 12-mm diameter ring cores wound of rapidly quenched Fe-Nb-Cu-B-Si ribbons were axial-field annealed packed within ceramic sheath. Different structure heterogeneity - relaxed non-crystalline and nanocrystalline was obtained by various annealing conditions to see whether the heterogeneity impacts the need of strong excitation field to reduce magnetic noise of the ring core-based fluxgate sensors.
