This paper presents a novel semantic framework for authoring privacy policies of servers and privacy preferences of clients as well as their matching. The proposed solution allows for interactive detection and explanation of semantic inconsistencies during policy/preferences design. Privacy policies are expressed as OWL-DL ontologies and privacy preferences as OWL-DL integrity constraints checked via SPARQL-DL queries. The well-defined semantics of our solution together with flexibility of semantic technologies fixes known serious problems of P3P and APPEL matching scenario, including ambiguity and semantical incorrectness.
