The information representation and exchange, between various components of different manufacturers in widespread industrial communication networks, becomes a core part of the distributed and intelligent automation control systems. Strong attention is paid to high flexibility and dynamic reconfigurability at all levels of industrial control systems. The theory of mult-agent systems in combination with advanced methods for knowledge representation becomes more and more popular in this field. However, emerging solutions are still far from openness and system integration. Ontologies and Semantic Web technologies propose convenient resources for explicit knowledge description that can be very well integrated with the agent-based industrial systems. V rozsiahlych priemyselných komunikačných sieťach, reprezentácia a výmena informácií, medzi rozmanitými zariadeniami rôznych výrobcov, sa stáva kľúčovou časťou distribuovaných a inteligentných automatizovaných riadiacich systémov pričom silný dôraz sa kladie na vysokú flexibilitu a dynamickú rekonfiguráciu vo všetkých vrstvách priemyselných riadiacich systémov. Teória multiagentových systémov v kombinácii s pokročilými technikami pre reprezentáciu znalostí sa stáva čím ďalej tým viac rozšírenou v tejto oblasti. Avšak tieto objavujúce sa riešenia sú stále ďaleko k otvorenosti systémov a ich integrácie. Ontológie a technológie sémantického webu ponúkajú vhodné prostriedky pre popis explicitných znalostí, ktoré môžu byť veľmi dobre zviazané s priemyselnými systémami založené na agentových technológiách.
