Mixing suspensions is very frequent operation in process industries. The most of papers presented in literature was devoted to mixing of homogeneous suspensions of particles with the same size. On the other hand only a few papers was devoted to mixing of heterogeneous particles with the different size. Experimental studies of mixing of heterogeneous suspensions were carried out in cylindrical baffled vessel with diameter 300 mm equipped with four standard baffles. The three down pumping impellers (standard pitched six-blade turbine, TX 335 impeller and modified folded blade turbine) with vessel to impeller diameter ratio D/d= 3 and in distance 0.75d from bottom were used in experiments. Suspensions of glass ballotine with diameters 0.025, 0.165 and 0.395 mm with volumetric concentration in the range from 0.025 to 0.2 were used in the suspension measurements. The just-suspension impeller speeds were measured by an electrochemical method and checked visually. From the results it follows that just-suspension impeller speeds were practically determined by impeller speeds of greater particles with given volumetric concentration. The smaller particles have practically no effect on just-suspension impeller speeds. The best arrangement of mixing equipment can be selected by recommendations for monodisperse suspensions presented. Mixing suspensions is very frequent operation in process industries.
