The paper describes a multi body simulation model of all-wheel drive electric vehicle that contains a simple embedded optimization tool that determines the optimal power load distribution ratio with respect to energy consumption between front and rear axle of the vehicle. The vehicle simulation model is programmed in Matlab/Simulink. The embedded Matlab optimization function is based on an algorithm that searches for a distribution ratio with minimal power losses at both traction motors at each time step of the simulation. Various topologies are compared to show the potential of intelligent power flow control in electric vehicle powertrains.
