This paper is dealing with various methods of substrate treatment used to increase a biogas production. These methods, namely the mechanical disintegration, thermal hydrolysis and ultrasonic disintegration have been compared from the energy point of view. This comparison required the knowledge of mass and heat balances. Data needed for evaluation of all processes have been obtained from the literature [1] and also from our own experiments, especially for the case of ultrasonic disintegration.
