One field of the research interest is the comparison of the grain size, microstructures and mechanical properties of castings made by different casting methods. The reason for this activity is to know and to predict mechanical properties of prototype cast by different method than it is cast the serial part. In the foundry lab it is possible to cast by gravity methods, e.g. investment casting, gravity sand casting and gravity die casting. The difference between those samples is given especially by the cooling rate.
