dcterms:description
In this contribution, we introduce a rate-independent model for heterogenous structures with imperfect interfaces derived from the global energy minimization. It is based on a variational formulation isotropic interfacial damage mechanics and on the incremental minimization of reversible and dissipated energies. The resulting optimization problem is discretized using the Finite Element Method and converted into its dual form based on the Finite Element Tearing and Interconnecting algorithm extended to account for weakened interfaces. When combined with the alternate minimization algorithm, the present FETI-based formulation leads to very efficient numerical method as it allows to treat (almost) rigid interfaces and frictionless contact conditions. These conclusions are supported by comparsion of the proposed model with two experiments of mixed-mode delamination.
