In this contribution, we demonstrate the applicability of the FETI algorithm to the solution of unit-cell problems, providing a basic building block for the multi-scale analysis of composite materials. Noting that the physical meaning of the dual variables is that of inter-domain tractions, we present an extension of the original formulation towards the treatment of specific traction-separation constitutive laws at internal interfaces, including contact conditions. The performance of the algorithm is demonstrated my means of a systematic study of two-dimensional unit cell in plane strain state. In particular, we investigate the effect of interface stiffnesses (ranging from perfect bonding to complete separation, respectively) scalability of the homogenization solver, effects of preconditioning and orthogonalization of the dual problem.
