Both portals of the highway tunnel Valík (highway D5/E50 Praha - Pilsen - Germany) are built in deep cuts. The side-slopes were temporarily stabilized by nails with shot-crete and the final support has been provided by a gabion retaining wall. The gabion retaining wall is 9 m high at the tunnel portal, its height decreases with the distance from the tunnel. Nine-meter high gabion is one of the highest ones in the Czech Republic, its structural design was proposed with a very low reserve of bearing capacity because of limited building space, Therefore monitoring of the structure was recommended. The measurements done until July 2006 are discussed together with their possible their future development, which will be further used for analysis of gabion construction deformations. Portály tunelu Valík jsou provedeny v hlubokých zářezech zajištěných dočasně hřebíkováním se stříkaným betonem a trvale gabionovými opěrnými konstrukcemi. U portálu dosahují gabiony výšky až devět metrů a jejich výška se směrem od portálu postupně snižuje. Devítimetrový gabion je jeden z nejvyšších v ČR, jeho statické řešení je kvůli prostorovým omezením navrženo s velmi malou rezervou, a proto bylo doporučeno kontrolní sledování. Diskutujeme měření provedená do června 2006 spolu s jejich možným vývojem, který bude použit pro analýzu přetváření gabionových konstrukcí.
