The numerical model of Nd:YAG laser (16 ns FWHM, 266, 355, 532 nm) induced melting, solidification and evaporation of CdZnTe was developed. The initial content of zinc in the CdZnTe pseudo-binary was assumed to be 4% in all calculations. The shape of the laser pulse employed in the computations was obtained by experimental measurements. The main outputs of our calculations were the temperature and concentration fields, and the positions and velocities of the phase interfaces. It can be concluded that the numerical studies performed improve our understanding and modeling nonequilibrium, short-time scale phase change phenomena in II-VI semiconductors. The model can also help the experimentalist in designing the proper setup of the laser treatment of the materials in question.
