Ion and X-ray emission from Ag and Ta laser plasma were measured at different focusing conditions of the laser beam which led to the change of laser intensity in the range 2X10 13 -7X10 15 Wcm -2 . The characteristics of both emission were well correlated. Radical changes of parameters of the emissions were observed when the laser intensity became higher than 6x10 14 Wcm -2 , which indicated a change of the physical mechanism of generation of ions and x-ray.
