Fish fauna and macrozoobenthos were surveyed at 51 and 32 sites, respectively, in mountain and submountain streams of the Vlára stream drainage area in the Bílé Karpaty Mountains. In total, 15 fish species were registered. Brown trout and stone loach were the most frequent species, followed by chub, gudgeon and minnow. The species richness increased downstream in the mainstream of the Vlára stream (maximum of 10 species at the lowest study site). Qualitative data on fish assemblages did not fully correspond with the environmental stress. Macrozoobenthos indicated a minor decrease in water quality downstream of small villages and farms. Larvae of dipterans (Chironomidae and Simuliidae in particular) and mayflies (Ephemeroptera) dominated amongst the temporary water macroinvertebrates, whilst numerous populations of Gammarus fossarum (Amphipoda) and in some cases also of Asellus aquaticus (Isopoda) were recorded as permanent inhabitants of clean and polluted stretches, respectively. V horských a podhorských tocích v povodí Vláry (Bílé Karpaty) byla zkoumána společenstva ryb a makrozoobentosu na 51, respektive 32 lokalitách. Celkem bylo uloveno 15 druhů ryb. Nejčastějšími druhy byli pstruh obecný potoční a mřenka mramorovaná, následovaní jelcem tlouštěm, hrouzkem obecným a střevlí potoční. V hlavním toku Vláry stoupal poproudně počet druhů ryb až na 10 na nejnižší lokalitě. Složení rybího společenstva neodpovídalo přesně zátěži prostředí. Makrozoobentos indikoval mírný pokles kvality vody pod malými vesnicemi a statky. Larvy dvoukřídlých (obzvláště Chironomidae a Simuliidae) a jepic (Ephemeroptera) dominovaly mezi temporárními vodními bezobratlými, zatímco početné populace blešivce potočního (Amphipoda) a v některých případech také berušky vodní (Isopoda) byly zaznamenány jako trvale obývající čisté, respektive znečištěné úseky.
