Results of conventional compressive creep tests on massive specimens and small punch tests on thin discs of magnesium alloy AZ91 and its composite with 20 vol. % of Saffil fibres at 523 K are presented and discussed with the aim to show some advantages of small punch testing in a judging mechanical properties of metal base composites. It is shown that there is a simple proportionality between the stress in creep tests and the force in small punch tests with identical time to rupture. Such relationships can be effectively exploited in testing of composites. The application of the small punch procedure allows to control structure of tested specimens.
