v Antigenní markery heterochromatinických proteinů, které jsou běžně přítomny v jádrech lidských progenitorových buněk CD34+, diferencovaných lymfocytů a monocytů, nejsou přítomny v jádrech neutrofilních a ve značném rozsahu rovněž eosinofilních granulocytů. V granulocytech pacientů s akutní CML a AML byly detekovány všechny isoformy HP1 a silná metylace histonu H3K9. V chronických formách CML nebyla nalezená žádná silná korelace mezi hladinou metylace histonu H3, progresí choroby a způsobem léčby. Naprogramování leukemických buněk HL-60 na terminální diferenciaci pomocí retinové kyseliny nemělo za následek eliminaci metylace histonu H3 a absenci isoforem HP1 proteinu v diferencovaných granulocytech. Naše výsledky jsou první, které ukazují, že metylace histonu H3K9 může být dramaticky změněna v průběhu normální buněčné diferenciace.
