Trachydiscus minutus is shown to be a new organism with great potential for the production of PUFAs, especially of EPA. The strain, Lukavsky et Pribyl 2005/1, was patented in the Czech Republic (Lukavsky et al. 2010). The yields of EPA from T. minutus are comparable, sometimes better, than other algae in use at present. Trachydiscus minutus is shown to be a new organism with great potential for the production of PUFAs, especially of EPA.
