The PCR fragment F1-R1 (1307bp from Meishan and Piétran pigs) was sequenced using a Thermo Sequence Cy5 Dye Terminator Sequencing Kit and an ALFexpress Sequencing System. The F1-R1 fragments from four pigs were seguenced and seven SNP were identified. One SNP (position 210) is in the recognition seguence for enzyme RsaI. Linkage was analysed in the Hohenheim MxP pedigree using the CRI-MAP software package. MPZ was localized to the linkage group on chromosome 4q. The most significantly linked marker to MPZ on porcine radiation hybrid panel (IMpRH) was SW589 on chromosome 4 (25cR; LOD=11,45). The MPZ gene is located in the quantitative trait loci (QTL) interval for carcass traits including musle and fat mass.
