The main goal of the work was preparation of cost effective and simple to pre-shape high temperature composite material. To fulfil expectations it was necessary to optimise the design of the composite to have an optimal fibre-matrix interaction. Fracture behaviour of matrix prepared by pyrolysis of various modification of polysiloxane resin used for preparation of composites reinforced by long ceramics fibres was under investigation and findings were summarised in this contribution. A number of modified polysiloxane resin was studied in various steps of heat treatment as a stay alone materials to enable optimisation of matrix properties. Fully instrumented indentation technique for determination of reliable parameters characterising microstructural changes was used. Both optical and scanning electron microscopy was employed in microstructural observations and fracture mechanism qualification.
