In this review, we better characterised the intracellular handles, which could be targeted to improve metabolic properties of adipocytes in WAT. New combination treatment strategies may be designed including naturally occurring micronutrients like omega 3 and plant polyphenols, reduced calorie intake, and pharmacological modulators of key signalling pathways in fat cells.
