S.cerevisiae BYT1, BYT2 and BYT12 mutant strains lacking the TRK1 and/or TRK2 genes (encoding potassium uptake transporters) have been constructed. The TRK1 gene has been substituted by the LEU2 gene and the TRK2 has been substituted by the kanMX cassette. Finally, LEU2 and kanMX cassettes were replaced by cre-loxP system leaving a single loxP site.
