S. cerevisiae BYT4, BYT5 and BYT45 mutant strains lacking the alkali-metal-cation exporters encoded by ENA (ENA1, ENA2, ENA5) and NHA1 genes have been constructed. All genes have been substituted by the kanMX cassette. Finally, kanMX cassettes from all strains were replaced by cre-loxP system leaving a single loxP site. Unique GMO strains in the BY4741 background have been created to study heterologously expressed sodium and potassium transporters from both lower and higher eukaryotes S. cerevisiae BYT4, BYT5 and BYT45 mutant strains lacking the alkali-metal-cation exporters encoded by ENA (ENA1, ENA2, ENA5) and NHA1 genes have been constructed.
