Bowen ratio as the indicator of water and energy balance was estimated from eddy covariance measurements. Evapotranspiration on the stand level was measured by eddy covariance method. Stand transpiration was estimated using thermodynamic - heat pulse method measuring transpiration on a tree level. Measurements were made within and above a young Norway spruce forest stand located at the Experimental Ecological Study Site Bílý Kříž in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mts. Bowen ratio was estimated for daily and seasonal courses of growing season 2005. At the daily courses of clear days, values of Bowen ratio were the highest at the noon (1-2) because of maximal sensible heat flux. The seasonal variation in the Bowen ratio was clearly 'U' shaped. The Bowen ratio was quite high in the spring and late autumn, when the physiological activity of the forest stand is low, so the ecosystem transpiration gets a small part on the evapotranspiration.
