The periglacial temperature regime in cool scree slopes located at subalpine altitudes of only 300–600 m a.s.l. in the Czech highlands is described and proved by the occurrence of a relict population of the predatory mite Rhagidia gelida Thorell (Acari, Prostigmata, Rhagidiidae). The mite has a circum-boreal pattern of distribution today, but its disjunct populations have the island-like pattern of distribution in the cool screes in the Czech highlands. R. gelida is univoltine, freezing intolerant and considered biological cryoindicator of the periglacial microclimate. As coolness is needed for R. gelida to survive in the cool screes, it is concluded that the scree slope patchy permafrost-like habitats are continuously long-lasting and perhaps persisting in modified form as paleorefugia since the Pleistocene. Je popisován periglaciální teplotní režim v chladných suťových svazích v subalpinské nadmořské výši pouze 300-600 m v českých pahorkatinách, který je prokazatelný výskytem reliktní populace dravého roztoče Rhagidia gelida Thorell(Acari, Prostigmata, Rhagidiidae. Tento roztoč má cirkumboreální typ rozšíření, ale jeho isolované disjunktivní populace mají v sutích České republiky ostrovní charakter výskytu. R. gelida je univoltinní, intolerantní vůči zmrznutí a je považována za biologický kryoindikátor periglaciálního mikroklimatu. Protože chlad je nutný k přežívání populací R. gelida v sutích, lze z toho vyvodit, že chladná, permafrostu podobná místa v sutích existují trvale v modifikované podobě jako paleorefugia od dob pleistocenu.
