dcterms:description
The article deals with the Dominican Republic congressional elections in 2010. The analysis includes Dominican electoral system, political parties and their electoral campaigns, the importance of the elections in the Dominican Republic in general, the final election results and the probable future political direction of the country. The second part of the paper analyzes the influence of nonconcurrent elections on the occurrence of legislative-executive deadlocks. The article examines all deadlock situations that occurred in the Dominican Republic in the period of 1994 – 2010. Nonconcurrent elections make it more difficult to create a majority, and consequently it can be harder for the president to enforce his policy in Congress.
