Change in vaporization process was studied when snowbreak heavily damaged the young experimental spruce stand in the Orlické hory Mts. during winter 2006 and nearly undisturbed the parallel beech one. Assessing evapotranspiration of both stands (ET) based on continuous recording soil water content in root zone and evaporation from soil surface inclusive ground vegetation (Es) based on intermittent weighing evaporimeters were used. ET totals was comparable in both stands (200 to 235 mm for growing season). Until 2006 ET was ca 10% higher in the spruce stand, whereas in 2007 ET was 10% higher in the beech stand. High increase of Es was proved in a gappy spruce stand with weed infestation. The values of Es in the spruce stand reached even 3 mm per day, Es in a fully closed beech stand was 3 to 4 times lower. The Es evidently substituted the reduced transpiration of spruce broken canopy, if ET totals did not change significantly.
