dcterms:description
Based on the evaluation of site and climatic conditions, phytophagous species Acalitus rudis (Canestrini) and Aculus leionotus (Nalepa) (Acarina, Eriophyidae) occurring in the area of the eastern Ore Mts. (north-western part of Czech Republic) prefer lower parts of crowns of birch stands aged over 40 years and locations at 500 -- 700 m alt., the 5th forest vegetation zone (Abies-Fagus) and the 6th forest vegetation zone (Picea-Fagus) and their edaphic categories K (acidophila) and S (mesotrophica). The intensity of attack is affected by the course of weather in spring (April -- May), long-term precipitation amounts 700-1000 mm and mean annual temperatures 4.5-6 °C. Effects of air pollution on the occurrence of Eriophyidae were not proved for 2003 (low concentrations) but in A. leionotus, the gradual increase in population density can be related to the process of the air pollution load decline in the area under investigation.
