dcterms:description
The objectives of this study were to determine mycotoxin contents, nutrient contents in silages from various grass species and their mixtures, the quality of extract from these silages. Evaluated over 3 years were silages from Lolium perenne, Festulolium pabulare, Festulolium braunii and mixtures of these with Festuca rubra and/or Poa pratensis. The grasses were ensiled with 30-40% dry matter. At ensiling, chemical (formic acid, propionic acid, amonium formate) and inoculant (Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus plantarum, Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus salivarius, cellulase, hemicellulase, and amylase) additives were used. Wilted biomass was ensiled in containers of diameter and height 0,15 m and 0,64 m, respectively. Comparable contents of deoxynivalenol, zearalenone and T2 toxin were detected in the silages. Based upon ergosterol contents, the silages displayed identical levels of mould contamination. Use of organic acids increased deoxynivalenol content. Silages diggered in their neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and digestible organic matter (DOM). Silages from L.perenne had low NDF and high DOM, as did silages from F. braunii and mixtures with dominance of these species. By kontrast, F. pabulare silages had high NDF and lower DOM. Silages of F. pabulare had lower ethanol content and, in contrast to those of F. braunii, higher pH. Ryegrass and thein hybrids influenced contents of lactic and acetic acids. The quality of extracts was affected by inoculant.
