Most current information systems work as an operational and transaction process which gathers a large set of data and uses this information daily in a real-time controlling process. We often need to answer many questions through our data warehouse. Standard transaction systems are not built for this type of questions. We can use it only for simple answers. In daily managing we need to answer complex questions that help us to make decisions, to build strategies in our company or institution thus making it possible for us to make good decisions about planning future business activities. In order to prepare data to get good answers, we need new information system or new layer of vertical architecture of our enterprise information system. These decision support systems employ different technologies and different data models than class relational data model. One of these tools (or information system layer) is OLAP -- on-line analytical processing.
