dcterms:description
This article is about the theory of Environment enrichment in institutions for children with behavioral problems. By the environment we means: physical space and living conditions, the people we are living with, the stress of the environment, the food that we eat, the hours that we work, the community that we are part of. The effect is how we can do it and use it in the institutions. We can say that environmental enrichment concerns how the brain is affected by the stimulation of information processing provided by its surroundings. The environment enrichment can develop the brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF is active in the hippocampus (limbic system), cortex, and basal forebrain, areas vital to learning, memory, behavioral inhibition and higher thinking. We can say that brains in richer, more stimulating environments, have increased numbers of synapses, and the dendrite arbors upon which they reside are more complex. Essentially the environment we live in (social interaction, physical stimulus and mental stimulus) can have large positive or negative affects upon: how our brain works, how it responds, how we perceive ourselves and how we behave. Environmental Enrichment has a positive effect upon all of these areas: Stress, Neuroplasticity and BENC and it has the ability to change affect the following neurotransmitters and functions. The article is consist of two parts. First is about the theory of environmental enrichment, the seconds is the practical view from the institutions.
