The Byzantine liturgical tradition is characteristic by the existence of 4 basic versions of funerals designed for groups of divergent social-ecclesial status (child - lay person - secular priest - religious person), with addition of moreover 4 alternative variants (designed for burial of above-mentioned categories within the Paschal week). The aim of study is to show - thanks to the structural comparison of these forms of funerals and analysis of theirs symbolics, as like as thanks to the content-analysis - how, in what and to which degree is death seen the as a factor which eliminates as like as accentuates the differences in ecclesial and social status of groups within the Church community. Bizantyjska tradycja liturgiczna cechuje się istnieniem 4 podstawowych wersji obrzędów pogrzebowych przeznaczonych dla grup o różnym statusie społecznym i eklezjalnym (dziecko - osoba świecka - kapłan świecki - mnich), z dodatkiem dalszych 4 wariantów (dotyczących pogrzebu tychże grup w oktawie Paschy). Celem studium jest wykazanie - na podstawie porównania strukturalnego tych wersji oraz analizy treści i zastosowanej symboliki - jak, w czym i na ile jest śmierć postrzegana jako czynnik niwelujący i podkreślający różnice w statusie eklezjalnym i społecznym poszczególnych grup wspólnoty chrześcijańskiej.
