dcterms:description
The issues concerning both religiosity and migration have been discussed by scholars across different academic disciplines. Various theoretical and methodological tools are utilized to approach these phenomena in social sciences. The conference focused on religion and migration and related processes in the global age, while drawing particular attention to Asian cultures and societies. The conference provided a space for highly elaborated academic discussion on these topics. Dealing with migration, the debate examines not only the human and material transmission, but also the delocalization of values, thoughts and practices, a part of which is religion. Religious transformations in the contemporary world can be also regarded as an impact of global migration processes. The conference offered presentations of scholars engaged in empirical, theoretical and methodological research in the fields of migration, Asian studies and study of religions. The presentations addressed the following themes: Religion and Migration Processes; Religion in the Globalized World; Religion and Acculturation; Migration and Development; Migration in the Globalized World; Migration and the Role of Religion; Religious and Migration Processes in Asia; Globalizing Asia and Religion, Chinese Overseas. Keynote lectures were given by Martin Baumann, University of Lucerne (Generational Change of Religious Practices and Ideas among Asian Immigrants: Modelling and Interpreting Shifts among Hindus and Buddhists in Switzerland), Eileen Barker, London School of Economics and Political Science (Here, There and/or Anywhere? Minority Religions and their Migration of In and Out of Britain), Robert Segal, University of Aberdeen (Religious Migration and Diffusion) Miyama Ryo, Daito Bunka University Community College (Usage of Paper Offerings in Taiwanese Folk Religion) and by Aike P. Rots, University College Cork (Global Shinto? Invention and Spread of a %22Nature Religion%22).
