The paper focuses on the phenomenon of translated literature and its problematic relation with national literature. An attempt will be made to indicate how an often uncontrolable mass of translated literature can be classified and described. This method is applied. At the hand of a literary historical casus the factors to be researched in a survey of the recipiating milieu are discussed. In deze bijdrage wordt de aandacht gericht op het fenomeen vertaalde literatuur en de problematische verhouding daarvan ten opzichte van de nationale literatuur. Er wordt een poging gedaan om te schetsen, hoe een vaak onoverzichtelijke massa vertaalde literatuur kan worden geordend en beschreven. Deze methode wordt in praktijk gebracht. Vervolgens wordt op basis van een literair-historische casus besproken welke factoren bij een onderzoek van een recipiërend milieu kunnen worden betrokken
