The paper presents the results of discontinuous high-solids mesophilic anaerobic co-digestion of agricultural substrates. The test was carried out in a newly designed horizontal anaerobic fermenter created from a silage bag of the volume 0.7 m3. The batch was used from a garage biogas station Šumperk operated by a company FORTEX-AGS Ltd (BIOFerm Technology GmbH). The batch of the weight 400 kg was consisted of 30 wt % mixed substrates (corn silage, grass silage, beef cattle manure etc.), 45 wt % solid digestate from the previous digestion cycle of the station and 25 wt % percolate from the previous cycles. The content of total solids was 20 wt %. The aim was focused on intensive recirculation of percolate. During 14 days of the discontinuous process, the intensity of biogas production reached 2.37 mN3.m-3.d-1, due to the active reaction volume equalled to 0.420 m3, or 0.0025 mN3.kg-1.d-1 from the input mixture. The yield of methane was 0.018 mN3.kg-1 from the batch, or 0.111 mN3.kgVS-1 from the organic solids. The result indicated the need to optimize / maximize the device for obtaining higher yield of methane.
