Present paper is focused on experimental study of bubbles levitating in countercurrent downward diverging flow. Air bubbles with volumes 10 mm3<V<1000 mm3 were studied in liquids with different properties (density, viscosity, surface tension, and conductivity) namely water, glycerol solutions, electrolyte solutions of various concentrations, and butyl alcohol. The bubble shape, position and motion have been investigated by quite long direct observation of two plane projection of bubble by high speed camera. Typical sampling frequency was 150 Hz. Relatively long records, nearly one minute (approximately 9000 frames per one bubble observation), allow us to get relevant statistics of treated data. Parameters such bubble shape aspect ratio, determined from both projection planes, and rising velocity was determined and tested for each single bubble with respect of liquid properties. Obtained results are transformed to dimensionless form. New correlation for bubble rising velocity data is proposed.
