dcterms:description
During the ancient times Egypt was considered to be a legendary country, where “gold was as plentiful as dust”. The main sources of gold were there in the Eastern Desert of Egypt and in Nubia and the NE Sudan. The ancient Egyptians made a distinction between two main types of gold: nub-en-mu, gold of the river (gold placers), and nub-en-set, gold of the mountain (primary gold-quartz mineralization). The geological setting of the gold deposits, their main types and the development of gold mining over time are outlined.
