In Trebovice Power Plant (Ostrava, the Czech Republic) the application of NEUTREC? technology ? desulphurisation by means of sodium bicarbonate ? has been tested. This technology significantly influences the chemical and phase composition of fly ash and the consequent hydrochemical composition of water leachate. The fundamental precondition for the current utilization of fly ash (surface ground shaping and land reclamation, disposal in mines and settling basins) is to obtain water leachate quality according to the Council Decision 2003/33/EC parameters. At 60 % sulphur removal the water leachate contains up to 10 g/l of dissolved substances and higher contents of oxyanions (Se, Sb, Cr, As). To decrease the content of dissolved substances in water leachate we used ekobent (60% bentonite), CaO and non-desulphurised fly ash.
