In this paper, it will be described a mathematical model of the Enhanced Distributed Coordination Function (EDCF) media access mechanism implemented by Markov Chains. Using this model, it will be derived a mathematical expression of a normalized saturation throughput. Further, simulation results will be shown made by OPNET Modeler and aimed at the dependency of the throughput on the load and the media access delay on the load. Finally, the influence of the minimal and maximal contention window on the throughput and the media access delay will be analyzed.
