This paper shows an unconventional view of a particular application of theory and modeling in solving large scale technical problems. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are quantifiable values that reflect the critical success factors of operation, enterprises and companies. The selection of these indicators depends on the type of the company and/or a system. An example of the technological process in finding the optimal mode, KPI respectively, is the disintegration of the rock process, where the theoretical starting point is the energy theory for the disintegration process, which is based on the instantaneous speed of the indentor progress, the specific amount of work during the disintegration process (the amount of energy used for rock disintegration per volume unit) depending on the downforce. Finding the optimum on an experimental stand using the evolutionary planning method and considering the MISO type of model is, for example, enabled by using the values measured during the process of rock disintegration - the KPIs.
