The contribution concerns construction of optimal blank for stampings of side from thin sheet-metal. Three methods of determining of shape and size of blank - the method according to the Czech State Standards, the method of sections and the graphical method, using the maximum shear stress trajectories - are discussed. The results of drawing of selected stamping of intricate shape from three variants of blanks have shown, that the blank, determined by method, using the M. S. S. T., is the optimal solution.
