Very fast progress in development of the computer technology gives new possibilities for application of results of numerical mathematics on practical problems in engineering. One of many domain of exploitation of computer technology capability can be a solution of contact problems in mechanical engineering that are well known by their high difficulty for solution caused by their non-linearity. This growth of computational power allows also successful application of numerical optimization methods on non-linear problems, such as a contact problem. In this paper there are discussed the ways of suitable numerical solution of contact shape optimization problem. The first part of paper is focused on methods of global optimization sphere. The brief description of these methods, with emphasis of its characteristic features, is done in the introduction. The genetic algorithm is used for computer processing and for application on contact problems optimizing.
