The paper aims at analysing the present situation in language teaching and learning via the learning management system (LMS) environment and tries to identify critical elements which impede its full and efficient use. The insufficiencies are discussed both from the pedagogical point of view, such as suitability to various teaching/learning styles, and the informatics point of view, such as adaptivity, communication interface or testing options. The closing part of the paper brings suggestions for further research in this area.
