Net photosynthetic rate (PN), transpiration rate (E), and stomatal conductance (g(s)) during water stress and after rehydration were measured in Phaseolus vulgaris, Beta vulgaris, and Zea mays. Immediately before imposition of water stress by cessation of watering, plants were irrigated with water ( control), 100 muM abscisic acid (ABA), and/or 10 muM N-6-benzyladenine ( BA). In all three species, application of ABA decreased gs, E, and PN already 1 h after application. However, during water stress g(s), E, and P-N in plants pre-treated with ABA remained higher than in plants pre-treated with water. Positive effects of ABA application were observed also after rehydration. In contrast, the effects of pretreatment with BA were species-specific. While in bean plants BA application ameliorated negative effect of water stress, only very slight effects were observed in maize, and in sugar beet BA even aggravated the effects of water stress. Rychlost fotosyntézy (PN), transpirace (E) a vodivost průduchů (gs) byla měřena u listů rostlin Phaseolus vulgaris, Beta vulgaris a Zea mays v průběhu vodního stresu a po rehydrataci. Těsně před navozením vodního deficitu přerušením zálivky, rostliny byly zality buď vodou (kontrola), 100 ?M kyselinou abscisovou (ABA), nebo 10 ?M N6-benzyladeninem (BA). U všech tři druhů rostlin aplikace ABA snižovala gs, E a PN již po 1 hodinovém působení. Naproti tomu v průběhu vodního stresu hodnoty gs, E a PN byly vyšší u rostlin po předpůsobení ABA než u kontrolních rostlin. Positivní vliv ABA byl pozorován také po rehydrataci rostlin. Naproti tomu, vliv předpůsobení BA byl závislý na druhu rostliny: u fazolu aplikace BA zmírnila negativní vliv vodního stresu, u kukuřice byl vliv aplikace BA nevýrazný a u cukrovky aplikace BA dále snížila parametry výměny plynů.
