dcterms:description
We propose a new very effective method of thick foils acceleration, the efficiency of which is much higher than that achieved in classic ablative experiments. We tested it with specially designed “cavity type targets, in which the plasma pressure induced by laser action inside the cavity constitutes the most important factor of the foil acceleration. The reported experiment was carried out at the PALS iodine laser. To study the foil motion and to determine the efficiency of plasma energy transfer to its kinetic energy a three-frame laser shadography technique was used.
