A 28 GHz electron cyclotron heating (ECH) and electron Bernstein wave heating (EBWH) system has been proposed for installation on the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX). A steered mirror launcher is proposed that would test ordinary mode to electron Bernstein wave (O-X-B) coupling physics and EBW electron heating. Code modeling predict efficient on-axis EBW heating and current drive should be possible 28 GHz in NSTX plasmas, with on-axis current drive efficiencies reaching40 kA/MW.
