Using germ-free and Lactobacillus plantarum-monocolonized mice we studied the role of microbiota in the development of allergic sensitization and mucosal tolerance induction in a mouse model of type I allergy to birch pollen. In our setting, the absence of the microbiota did not influence the capacity to establish tolerance via the oral or intranasal routes nor to establish an allergic immune response at the humoral or cellular levels Using germ-free and Lactobacillus plantarum-monocolonized mice we studied the role of microbiota in the development of allergic sensitization and mucosal tolerance induction in a mouse model of type I allergy to birch pollen.
