The Corynebacterium glutamicum aceE gene, encoding the E1p enzyme which is an essential part of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate, was analyzed. Inactivation of this gene lead to inability to grow on glucose.
