Direct carbonylation of [Pt(NH 3 ) 4 ] 2+ ion exchanged in NaEMT zeolite gives violet 3-stacked Pt anionic carbonyl [Pt 3 (CO) 6 ]32-. Formation of this complex is possible due to special structure of EMT zeolite.Decomposition of the Pt anionic carbonyl yields subnanometer Pt clusters, which exhibit size quantization effects (UV/Vis spectra). Formation as well as decomposition of the carbonyls were studied using FTIR and UV/Vis spectroscopies.
