Oscilační reakce, kde mají vodíkové ionty autokatalytický účinek, se nazývají pH oscilátory. Pokud jsou tyto reakce provozovány v průtočném míchaném reaktoru (CSTR), vykazují často velmi složité dynamické chování jako multiplicitu ustálených stavů na různé úrovni kyselosti, samovolné oscilace, bistabilitu mezi ustáleným stavem a oscilacemi nebo hysterezní smyčky. Navíc existují podmínky, za kterých je systém excitabilní. Když propojíme dvě reakční cely prostřednictvím sdílení hmoty, dynamické chování se může stát značně složité. Oscillating reactions with an autocatalytic effect involving protons are called pH-oscillators. In a single continuous-flow stirred tank reactor (CSTR), these reactions often display very complex dynamical behavior, such as multiple steady states with different level of acidity, spontaneous oscillations, bistability between various steady states or oscillations and hysteretic loops. In addition, there exist conditions under which such systems are excitable. When two reaction cells are coupled by diffusion-like mass transfer, dynamical behavior may become quite complex.
