Jak aglomerace v údolí Rio Grande rostou zvětšuje se i velikost kanalizace, která může být zdrojem zápachu (H2S) a nebezpečných těkavých organických látek. Tato studie se zabývá popisem a vývojem systému biofiltr-biotrikling filtr pro účinné odstraňování těchto látek ze vzduchu. Experimentálně bylo prováděno přidávání hydroxidu sodného do cirkulujícího média pro lepší odstraňování sirovodíku a prodloužení periody výměny média. As communities in areas of the Rio Grande Valley of Texas grow, wastewater conveyance systems are expanding into congested residential areas where they can emit large quantities of odorous and hazardous compounds such as H2S and VOCs into the air. This paper reports on the steps and progress achieved in optimizing a sequential biotrickling-biofilter treatment system for removal efficiency of air toxics and water recycle. Experiments have demonstrated that caustic solution addition to the recycle water is a feasible method for maintaining optimal H2S removal and extending the time between water dumps in the biotrickling filter unit.
