This work presents simple alternative to conventional production methods of intermetallics ? the synthesis from elements by thermally activated reactions called SHS (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis). Possibilities of application of this process to the preparation of intermetallics for high-temperature applications (aluminides, silicides) and medicine (Ni-Ti alloy) are presented.
